Absolutely. Puppies can enjoy treats once they’re eating solid food, but we recommend choosing something appropriate for their age, size and chewing ability. Start with smaller, softer pieces and always supervise your puppy while they’re eating.

Treats are exactly that — treats! They should complement your dog’s normal balanced diet rather than replace it. How much is appropriate depends on your dog’s size, age, activity level and the type of treat. Smaller pieces are great for training because your dog still gets the reward without eating half the treat cupboard.

Think about what you want the treat to do. Training? Something to chew? A special Friday-night snack? Dental support? Or simply because they’ve been a very good dog? Definitely. Smaller treats and treats that can easily be broken into little pieces are perfect for training. Dogs don’t care if the reward is enormous — they mostly care that they got one.

Single-protein treats are made using just one animal protein, such as beef, chicken, kangaroo, lamb or fish. They’re a simple option if you want to know exactly what protein you’re feeding, and can also make choosing treats easier for dogs with particular dietary sensitivities.

Every dog is different, so there isn’t one treat that works for every sensitive tummy. Simpler ingredient lists and single-protein options can make choosing easier. If your dog has a diagnosed allergy or medical condition, we recommend checking with your vet before introducing something new.

Most dogs can enjoy a variety of proteins as part of their diet. Rotating between things like beef, chicken, kangaroo, lamb and fish can also keep treat time interesting. If your dog has known allergies or dietary restrictions, stick with the proteins recommended for them.

Keep treats sealed and stored somewhere cool and dry, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Always check the individual product packaging for specific storage instructions. And yes, keeping them somewhere your dog can’t conduct an unsupervised taste test is also highly recommended.

This varies depending on the product. Always reseal the bag properly after opening and follow the storage and best-before information on the packaging. Because many of our treats aren’t packed with unnecessary preservatives, good storage matters.
