Our Story
Hey, I’m Brent, the owner of Bark Road.
Like a lot of small businesses, Bark Road didn’t start with a big plan or investors. It started with market stalls, early mornings weekends and a genuine love for dogs. I’d pack up the car, head to markets around Melbourne and spend the day talking to people who loved their pets just as much as I did. Those conversations taught me more than any business course ever could.
Eventually those market stalls grew into Bark Road, a place where I could bring together everything I loved about the pet community under one roof.
If you’ve ever visited the store, you’ve probably met Penny, my little Jack Russell. She’s been part of this journey from the very beginning and is a big reason Bark Road exists. Like most pet owners, she reminds me every day that our dogs aren’t “just pets”. They’re family.
That’s why everything I do is centred around making life with your dog a little better. Whether it’s grooming, treats, toys or everyday essentials. I want Bark Road to feel modern, colourful and welcoming. Somewhere that’s genuinely fun to visit, while still offering products I’d happily use for Penny myself.
I’m also a big believer that small businesses should give back where they can. Instead of making promises I can’t keep, I focus on supporting our local community. We collect donations in store for local animal rescues and work with our customers to help pets that need it most. It’s a small thing, but together it can make a real difference.
We’re always looking at ways to improve too. That means reducing unnecessary packaging, choosing recyclable materials where possible, supporting Australian businesses and making better decisions as we grow. We won’t get everything perfect, but we’re committed to improving every year.
Bark Road is still a small independent business and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Every order, every booking and every visit helps me keep doing what I love, and for that I’m incredibly grateful.
Thanks for being part of the journey. I can’t wait to show you what’s next.
